Studio Assistant - June 2022 - Nov 2022

Tiona Nekkia McClodden/TNM Studios is looking for a Studio Assistant to work directly with me on a range of projects that will be premiering this Summer and Fall 2022. This person should be Philadelphia based and willing to be on site within the studio as well as able to work remotely if necessary. TNM Studios is located within the Globe Dye Works building on the first floor. I will create a space within the studio that you will work from to maintain distance as we are still navigating work spaces within the pandemic. I have a steady flow of projects that areacross a range of media and installation that will be premiering from June to October 2002. My work is deeply conceptual and film, sculpture and curatorial based as well as invested in trying new forms lead by the idea itself. The Studio Assistant will be required to sign an NDA that affirms the privacy tied to the subject matter of the works only. I am very much private about the way that I work and how I produce my work and looking for someone who is willing to honor this process. I am also an autistic person and prefer concentrated work and have days where language via speaking can be difficult, in this case I may have you engage with meetings on my behalf. The ideal candidate would be chill but not lazy, positive, not over talkative, have an interest in art writing andable to work independently and efficiently and in silence for extended amounts of time if necessary. Starting as early as end of May 2022. The time frame will be June 2022 – Nov 2022 with an option to continue on with the studio. Pay is $18 per hour based on experience. 3 days per week. 5 hours per day. This role may lead to a studio manager role in the future as my work progresses.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

·Must have your own car or be timely with the use of public transportation. If any extensive travel for projects is required, the assistant will be provided with travel tickets (domestic + international) and gas money.

·Must be Philadelphia based. If in-person is required, both assistant and artist must share a recent negative COVID test prior to in-person meetings. ***I am tested weekly via Princeton University where I am currently teaching as a Princeton Arts Fellow.

·The candidate will work directly with TNM on a wide variety of projects, and should have experience to be able attend to all aspects of the artist’s studio activities including some light to moderate lifting of objects.

·Must be able to follow direction and be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task and problem solve

·Must be able to create, organize, and follow up on invoices 

·Must have good communication skills, writing proficiency and attention to detail.

·Must be able to organize exhibition archive (installation images, etc.) 

·Must be able to respond to email inquiries + maintain studio calendar

·Must be able to maintaining an open line of communication with my gallery 

·Must have your own functioning laptop.

·Must have familiarity with art database systems. Ability to support withsourcing, research, filing, data entry and archiving.

·Must have knowledge of Black contemporary art and a true interest in conceptual art and film.

-Interest in Web3, crypto and NFTs is a plus

·The ideal candidate is one who enjoys learning new skills,as projects often require experimentation with materials and techniques.

·Must have the ability to create studio documents, PDFs, and presentation materials efficiently and accurately. Superb attention to detail isa plus

Schedule: Flexible 3 days per week. 5 hours per day - max 15 hours/week (Part-Time) 

Compensation: Pay rate: $18 per hour. . The assistant will be paid via Venmo/Zelle or crypto wallet on a weekly basis. I can pay in ETH (crypto friendly).

The studio assistant is considered an independent contractor and will be provided with a 1099-MISC. The assistant is an at-will employee meaning the contract can be terminated by myself of the assistant at any point. The studio assistant will not claim health benefits nor be covered by any insurance.

I am not able to teach through my practice in the way that a younger artist may be seeking during this time. I am also not able to assist with another artists work. I am also not interested in taking someone away from their own practice as an artist.

Conceptual Fade 

CF Gallery Internship (paid)

Conceptual Fade in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a personable and organized Gallery Assistant Intern to manage the gallery and perform various office-related administrative tasks. Cf. is 135 sq feet and a small but mighty space that offers a unique visiting andviewing experience via Tiona Nekkia McClodden's personal library and archival media that she has made accessible to the public for research purposes. The  [ Cf.] Gallery Intern (paid) will be expected to be on site at the gallery for at least 12hrs per week Starting in June 2022 – Dec 2002 with an option to continue into 2023 which will be the third year of the space before a yearlong hiatus will be imposed to reflect and advance the space further. The exhibitions for [ Cf. ] are going to get more expansive and I am prepping the space for what’s to come. [ Cf. ] does not generate any income from this space and all exhibitions are free to all who comply with our Covid Release waiver and Appt requirments.

Hours are flexible but no more than two days per week at 6 hours per day. Hours are set per exhibition and TNM’s studio work schedule. Hours are always 12pm - 6 pm except for openings whichare 5pm – 8pm. The candidate must be able to efficiently multitask while working in a chill study environment. Attention to detail, excellent communication, and self starter skills are desired in this role alongside a true love and investment for textual based media that center Black and LGBTQ art, research and scholarship across a range of forms,

Responsibilities;

·Greet incoming visitors,communicate exhibition information, and answer questions about exhibition, NFSLibrary and programming.

·Greet guests during appts for viewing via the gallery entrance. Open and lock gallery entrance daily, ensure gallery tidiness – Process and organize books and publicationt hroughout the gallery.

·Order and restock NFSLibrary - Liaise with TNM for gallery openings and preparation for on and off-site special events (readings, talks, receptions, book signings etc.)

·Assist with social media via Instagram and Twitter

·Assist with gallery openings and preparation for on and off-site special events and facilitate exhibition installations which usually take no more than one day due to the size of the space and are low impact.
